Crowns, or caps, are used to restore broken, decayed or cracked teeth.
Crowns cover and restore your natural teeth so that you are able to eat and smile again without discomfort. If a tooth has extensive decay, which is often found underneath existing, older, broken down fillings, a crown may be necessary. If you experience discomfort in a specific area of your mouth, when biting or eating, you could have a cracked tooth. Cracked teeth can develop as a result of old fillings breaking down or the pressure applied to them from clinching and grinding. Not always, but most often cracked teeth will need crowns. An untreated cracked tooth is at risk for breaking.
Drs. Pappert & Kirk partner with each patient to determine their individual needs and develop a plan. Depending on the patient and their needs crowns can be made of precious metal, such as gold, or all porcelain, often referred to as metal free crowns.
